The NH7 Weekender is a huge music festival that is hosted by multiple cities across India. It is one of the few times that non-Bollywood music is given a platform in the country. Artists from across the world and genres have a stage at this festival. It is an occasion of high spirits and exhilaration.
This is where I heard Rodrigo y Gabriela. Some kind soul had advised me against missing their set, and I am ever grateful that I heeded their advice. Their performance was full of energy, to put it mildly. I had no idea one could do all that with just the guitar. I remember being very happily surprised.
Hanuman was a difficult pick from their entire album 11:11: all its tracks are simply amazing. This particular track has so much going on. The first fifteen seconds set the stage for the melody that comes on. Whenever I hear this song, I feel like I am part of a really exciting chase in the winding streets of a really old city. The song has that feel—of grit, of speed and of things going right. The two guitars really complement each other and produce this wholesome sound that your ears didn’t know they needed.
Next time you’re running away from someone trying to mug you, don’t forget to play Hanuman in your head.
