Ahhh this track is so so beautiful. It has been on repeat for days now and I cannot get enough of it.
"Honey, you're familiar..."
This track has everything that could possibly be expected from a perfect track. It's replete with elements of tragedy, of hope, of love and suspense, set of course to Hozier's anthemic voice and music. The singer-songwriter has to be complimented on his writing. The juxtaposition of "tragic" and "magic," "lonesome" and "wholesome," "wretched" and "precious," creates an elaborate imagery, enhanced of course, because of the unique rhyming pattern.
The track is a refuge from the impossibility of the relationship yet a celebration of its existence; hence idealism is imprisoned and chivalry, dead. It is Hozier singing to and signing off on his doomed love. From Eden one of those tracks that you run to, no matter how you feel. The lover's problems abound, regardless.
If your idealism has recently resigned, plug on Hozier's From Eden.
