Départ (to leave) is a melancholic composition, no doubt. But it comes laced with a twang of hope that always accompanies the feeling of helplessness. I am an internally optimistic person (borderline romantic I think), who otherwise loves to make a show of pragmatism and detachment. So, I know those moments of anguish that nevertheless come with a feeling that it’ll all be okay. Call it survival instincts, or what you will.
Samuel Felix’s this track, therefore, spoke to me. I love the carefully crafted notes, and the relayed idea of push and pull and deliberation. The image is clear: don’t leave. Yet, leaving is inevitable. As is the pain that follows it. But then, there is always hope.
At this weird moment in time, as pain and anguish abound, let hope shine through. Give Départ a listen.
