I've said this about a lot of my tracks before: movies and shows are two great ways to be introduced to new music. Now, Angst in My Pants isn't exactly new but I didn't exist in 1982.
The track, in my opinion, is representative of the generation, the age, the vibrancy, and the craziness of the dopest decade in the modern era. The little I know of the 80s is well represented in this track's sound. The decade was at the cusp of the transition from the rock 'n' roll 60s and 70's to the synthesised pop of the 90s. The opportunities that improving technology was making available at this time allowed many such "new wave" and"Synth-pop" bands to develop.
The Sparks are an interesting band. They are 23 albums into their music career, Angst in My Pants belongs to their 11th studio album with the same name. The mere cross-generational experience the band has is enough to set them apart. But what differentiates them are their quirky lyrics delivered by Russell Mael's wild vocal range and his brother Ron Mael's pulsating keyboard playing style. This particular track surveys the complex tendency of the human brain to return to the very problem that it is trying to avoid.
If you are running away, stop and wait. Put on Angst in My Pants while realising that running away is never an option.
