This song reeks of the sweet smell of regret. It almost seems like it is every college student's anthem. A short lived collaboration between artists from different genres, The Postal Service's A Tattered Line of String is just the right amount of electronic in Indie Rock.
It has all the right elements to make a good song: the sentimentality, an eclectic beat and the chorus repeated just the right number of times. The feeling of something that could-have-been is at the heart of the song. The feeling is relatable especially when the person is themselves to be blamed for it. The song leaves you with battling whether they really "felt something that couldn't exist," or if they really tie a string around everything.
I chanced upon this track on some iTunes Genius playlist that was playing as I was reading for class. When this song came on, I had to stop what I was doing and immediately look up the song and the artist.
If you pleasantly regret anything you ever did, it is time to listen to The Postal Service tell you what to rest the blame on.
