There have been few alternative culture powerhouses this decade as influential, or unlikely, as Mac Demarco - and you don’t have to look far to see his influence.
Do a bit of digital crate digging and you'll easily find a whole host of bands or singer-songwriters trying to capture his unique brand of laid back indie or take a walk down the street and you're more than likely to see young people copying his style.
Despite reaching the top of the indie world, Mac is still the modern king of keeping it real. He's a modest guy, who knows how to kick back, relax and (most importantly) enjoy himself.
The title track from his brilliant 2014 sophomore LP Salad Days is a wistful meditation on growing up and the passage of time. This witty and genius piece of songwriting is like that self-assessment we all have from time to time where we wonder what we're doing and where we're heading, nicely summed up in a two-minute indie gem.
It's a comforting reminder that not everyone has it all figured out, and it's the perfect song to fire up the barbecue and reminisce to. Salad Days aren't over.
