Chance The Rapper is back with his debut album, The Big Day. Chances’ track, “Eternal”-featuring Smino- is a particular ode to the theme of this very fun, celebratory, and joyous album. This is a song about how having someone on the side doesn’t quite measure up to having a forever love with someone special. This a silly track that pokes fun at side pieces and their incapabilities. There’s comical lines that take light jabs at the nature of side-pieces-such as “side chicks can’t cook no grits” and “side-chicks can’t take out splinters”. This particular song is just Chances’ way of telling his wife that no one will ever compare to her- a heavy message present in this album.
“Eternal” is about loving one person, and loving them forever-as the track title suggests. It’s a feel-good track that anyone can appreciate. With finding love these days, this particular track is a good example of the attitudes we should have with meeting people and falling in love. Temptation is always going to be there, but it’s always good to remember that “side chicks make their kool-aid with Splenda”-at the end of the day.
