Each week, our global creator community listens to tracks sent through our musicto artist submission form. And each week we add favorites to our musicto Monday playlist, and invite one musicto curator to choose an artist to put in the spotlight. This week, music curator Maria Fish puts Arizona songwriter Rohith Shaker in the spotlight.

Curator Maria Fish spent a lot of time listening to our musicto track submissions last week, and “Forest Walk,” by Phoenix, Arizona musician Rohith Shaker, caught her attention. She went on a listening expedition, exploring this artists singles, as well as his latest EP, Waking.
While “Forest Walk” piqued Maria’s curiosity, Rohith’s track “Waiting for the Candle to Die Out” was the one that resonated with her:
“I have been in the ambient realm recently, because of my breath practices, and sounds that can coexist with these practices seems to be found in this kind of music,” Maria said.
Rohith’s music was so inspirational that Maria wrote this beautiful poem:
Left Unsaid by Maria Fish
Arriving at the last breath
Wondering where it might land itself when it decides to leave the lips
What will be left unsaid
Are we able to accept being remembered in silence
Do we really even want to be looked at
I think instead of thinking
I will breathe
And maybe I will breathe into being braver instead of being broken

Who is Rohith Shaker?
Rohith Chandrashaker, who performs under the name Rohith Shaker, is a young songwriter and recording artist from Arizona, in the United States. Recording from home, the musician released his first EP, As the End Credits Roll, in 2021. Since then, he’s been increasingly exploring ambient music and diving deeper into creation. His latest EP release is Waking.

Rohith Shaker submitted his track “Forest Walk” to the musicto community. Here’s what he says about his song, which is one of five on his 2022 EP, Waking:
“Forest walk features modular synthesizers emulating sounds that occur in nature, such as the sound of leaves crunching, wind blowing, and birds chirping. The instrumental core features two main melancholic synth lines that weave between each other. ‘Forest Walk’ seeks to capture the feeling of taking an evening walk to get out of your own head.”
It’s no wonder Maria was inspired!
