Hayden Schutz
Edition – Rex Orange County
13 February 2018
Rex Orange County is quickly becoming one of my favourite artists. With this recent single, Rex proves that he’s on course to be a big name in alternative music in the near future…
Lazy Eye – Fruit Bats
7 February 2018
The seventh track on the Fruit Bat’s album, Mouthfuls, is a quiet, folky piano ballad that takes you on a journey through the lead singer’s thoughts and feelings on love.
Streetcar – Daniel Caesar
23 January 2018
Daniel Caesar, one of the most promising up-in-coming R&B/Soul artists at the moment, puts his own spin on Kanye West’s Street Lights off of his 5th album, 808s & Heartbreaks.
Avril 14th – Aphex Twin
16 January 2018
In 2001, the legendary Aphex Twin blessed us all with this two-minute piano instrumental off of the album, Drukqs.
Since there isn’t any lyrics, there isn’t a whole lot to tell you about the meaning of this song. It’s up to you to interpret whatever feelings this piece gives you.
Keep Walking – Kelly Lee Owens
9 January 2018
If you came here for space music, then this is the song that you’ve been waiting for. Kelly Lee Owens takes you to a whole new dimension with this track off of her breakout self-titled LP.
BLEACH – BROCKHAMPTON
2 January 2018
If you liked the Injury Reserve song, earlier on this playlist, you’ll love this. BROCKHAMPTON has been one of the most prolific acts of 2017 and what better way to start 2018 than with a song from one of their three albums released last year.
Mercury – Sufjan Stevens, Bryce Dessner, Nico Muhly & James McAlister
28 November 2017
I knew I had to pick something from Sufjan for this playlist so I figured what better than this track from Planetarium, his collaborative effort with The National’s Bryce Dessner and James McAlister as well as contemporary/classical composer Nico Muhly.
Over – Julien Baker
21 November 2017
The opener off Julien Baker’s latest record, Turn Out the Lights, is a short but sweet instrumental that sets the mood for the entire record.
Look On Down From The Bridge – Mazzy Star
14 November 2017
This song is more of an oldie compared to the bulk of the tracks in this playlist. The closing track off of Mazzy Star’s 1996 release, Among My Swan.
Doomed – Moses Sumney
7 November 2017
This track off Moses Sumney’s debut album, Aromanticism, really shows you everything he’s about in one song.
In this ambient and soulful ballad, Moses questions whether or not he is “doomed” if his heart stays in idle. Meaning he is unsure of where he is going in life because he is not sure of his direction at this point in time, therefore he is in a stand still or, as he sings, “idle”.
Wait – M83
26 October 2017
I would love to just put M83’s whole, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming record in this playlist but if I had to choose one song if would have to be this one.
Although this song comes in at a fairy long runtime of five minutes and forty-three seconds, it only actually contains thirty-seven words. Don’t let that mislead you though, the song doesn’t waste a moment…
La Lune – King Krule
26 October 2017
This cryptic UK musician recently released his third studio album, The OOZ, containing this lo-fi gem which ended off the album beautifully.
It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly what Archy is singing to us about on this brand-new track but that’s nothing out of the ordinary if you’re at all familiar with his music…
