This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody) – Talking Heads
24 April 2018
For years, when people asked me what my favourite song of all time was, I had no definitive answer. I used to almost dread that question, because most people who asked it were not planning for it to be such an ordeal. (Like, how much time do you have? Let me tell you about my top 10. Or, actually, let me just make you a playlist.)
Call Off Your Dogs – Lake Street Dive
10 April 2018
Lake Street Dive is one of the best bands out there right now. Every member is ridiculously talented, but Rachael Price’s effortlessly funky vocals are the standout; you can’t help but smile and bop along while listening to this song.
Our Retired Explorer (Dines With Michel Foucault in Paris 1961) – The Weakerthans
2 April 2018
Confession: my musical taste in high school was random, varied, and at times questionable. As a sheltered, geeky theater kid, it was all over the place. There are some bands I loved back then that I would not dare include on this playlist, but the Weakerthans is not one of them…
Don’t Die Curious – Tom Rosenthal
26 March 2018
This is a song that I think I need to listen to almost every day or have the lyrics printed and framed. Like many of Tom Rosenthal’s songs, there’s a playful aspect to the lyrics, but at its heart, it’s a deep and motivating song about living a full life and pursuing your passions with abandon,..
Dance Yrself Clean – LCD Soundsystem
20 March 2018
There’s something therapeutic about cranking up a favorite song and belting along behind the wheel–you know what I’m talking about–and this is just the song for that..
Fear & Force – Vagabon
13 March 2018
I am so happy I stumbled upon Vagabon’s music, because her 2017 debut album, Infinite Worlds, has been haunting me for months in the best possible way. The first time I heard this song, I’m pretty sure I was silent with my jaw dropped until the end.
Humanitarians – Wesley Jensen and the Penny Arcade
6 March 2018
Have you ever bought tickets to see a band that you really liked, and then ended up liking the opening band even better than the main act?
Therapy – Kristen
27 February 2018
I was just minding my business, going about my day when this track submission showed up in my inbox and made my week. It had me within the first 15 seconds with its fun beat, groovy bassline, and soulful, funky vocals. It’s one of those songs that will have you dancing in your car and will most likely be stuck in your head the rest of the day. And really, what more do you want from your morning tunes?
Emily – San Fermin
21 February 2018
This song is perfect for listening to on a long evening drive. It’s upbeat and funky, but also elegant and contemplative. Most of the songs I have on this playlist are lyrically happy, but the lyrics in this one tend toward the gloomy side…
Dear To Me – Electric Guest
13 February 2018
Electric Guest dropped a stellar debut album, “Mondo,” in 2012, then finally followed up with their second album, “Plural,” in 2017. It’s another solid album, and “Dear to Me” is not only my favorite song from it, it’s probably my favorite song from 2017 as a whole.
Don’t Delete the Kisses – Wolf Alice
7 February 2018
This song snuck up on me. At first listen, it is catchy and lovely, one of those breezy, atmospheric songs that are perfect for listening to when you’re driving at dusk. Then I read through the lyrics and that’s when all the feels hit me…
Perth – Beirut
31 January 2018
I don’t think words can do justice to how much I love this song. I am obsessed with it more than I humanly should be…
