Raising awareness by telling stories and playing music

Welcome to the Mental Health Collection

We’re so glad you’re here. Mental health is a deeply personal and often misunderstood journey, and there’s so much stigma and misinformation out there. Our aim is to break down those barriers by sharing stories and music, creating a space where you can find connection, empathy, and understanding.

We believe that knowing you’re not alone can be a huge support when you’re struggling. Reading about someone else’s experience can be a lifeline, a reminder that others have walked similar paths and made it through. But we don’t just want to share stories; we want to create experiences. That’s where the music comes in.

Accompanying each story with a playlist offers a unique way to connect. Music is a safe, universal language that can bridge the gap between us. It provides multiple touchpoints for conversation, allowing you to engage in a way that feels comfortable. Maybe you’ll reach out to someone because you both love a particular song, and that can be the start of a deeper connection.

By sharing your story and playlist, you’re contributing to a project that’s all about empathy and support. You’re helping to educate others, reduce stigma, and provide comfort to those who might be feeling isolated.

Before we go further, we need to be clear about something important. We’re not medical professionals, and we can’t offer advice or counseling. If you’re in crisis, please reach out to a professional. In the US, contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255. In the UK, you can reach Samaritans at 116 123. And always, please speak to your doctor or a trusted healthcare provider.

Thank you for being here and for considering sharing your story. Together, we can make a difference.

Jenna Barton

My name is Jenna Barton. I currently live in a small town in Illinois. Although I live in small town I have always been a big city girl at heart. I live near the great city of Chicago, where I try to visit as often as I can. I enjoy seeing new places and being around people. I'm not sure what my future holds, but I do know that music will be apart of it.

Music has always been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. You can find me listening to music in between classes and during nature walks. Ive had a passion for music at a young age when I started my own musical discovery. My journey into music led me into the boyband area for a while, but now its very diverse and I am always looking for something new to listen to.

I wouldn't be able to pick a favourite artist or song right now because its constantly changing. Music has changed my life for the better and I want nothing more than to share that with you.

The first visual memory I have is that of the white upright piano in Singapore, Hell and the Dark Forces lived at the bottom, Heaven and the Angels at the top, they would play battles through my fingers and I was hooked.

As a psychology graduate I studied how sound affects human performance.

As a musician I compose instrumental music that stimulates your brain but doesn't mess with your language centers, leaving you free to be creative and brilliant without distraction.

As a curator I research how music can improve your life and create flow - I can tell you what music to listen to when studying for a test and why listening to sad music can make you feel better.

As a creator / contributor at musicto I’m part of a global creator community that collaborates through music.  You can learn more about our community here.
